We had dinner out on the patio, which has a lovely view. The service was fine. The food is good! Prices are reasonable. I recommend the vegetarian enchiladas. Pretty quiet with no music. Street parking nearby.
It is very cozy but I kind of adore that about it. Probably the most affordable sit down meal I’ve had in California too and the food was excellent. Portions were a bit on the smaller side but totally adequate. I got a burrito which was pretty big but I was surprised it doesn’t come with a side.
So I used to get carne asada fries from here pretty often, they were $12 and pretty decent. Now the price is $15 a year later and the portion is the same, kind of on the small side. I just came from the central valley where the Mexican food is some of the best in the world and let me tell you when I ordered the carne asada fries at this truck I normally go to in stockton, the portion was massive it took me two times to finish it and the flavor lingered for hours in my mouth. The steak here at la cocina was on the chewy side and the fries were soggy and cold. Had I known the price went up and portion stayed the same I would have never ordered it. Safe to say I have to travel several hundred miles to get my carne asada fries fix again.
Loved dining here after a long, tiring day at Burney. We tried a bunch of dishes—verde enchiladas, chicken tacos—but our favorites were the pork taco, chicken fajita, and shrimp taco. Highly recommend grabbing a seat outside and soaking in the beautiful view while you eat plus you get free nachos and salsa to enjoy while you wait for food.
