Nice, little Japanese restaurant in Sonoma County. Love how the chef took extra care in greeting guests after cooking our meals. Would recommend if you are craving Japanese food and around this area.
Summary:
Don’t eat here. We got sick 10 minutes after we left. I won’t give you the gory details, but it wasn’t good.
Details:
We ordered lunch for two. Softshell crab and a mixed tempura and teriyaki chicken bento box. Miso soup arrived right away. It had a nice flavor, but not much tofu and a little bland. Even though there was only one other table occupied in the restaurant, our meal took a while to arrive. So much so the host came over to apologize for it taking so long.
The softshell crab was a disappointment. It was breaded instead of tempura and overcooked. The vegetables and chicken tempura in the bento box were not warm. Maybe room temperature like it was sitting for a while. The salad and rice were good. Side of teriyaki sauce will cost an additional $1.25.
Incredible lunch special of chicken teriyaki, soup, salad, rice, and California roll for only $12.25 every Tuesday through Friday 11:30 to 2:30. If I lived in the area, I would come here all the time. Very clean restaurant with a koi pond and authentic decor, friendly and fast service, and delicious food. Do yourself a favor and enjoy a fabulous meal at Kyoto Restaurant today.
I hadn’t been to Kyoto in years, but I was happy to discover that it’s still just as warm and welcoming as I remembered. It may not be cutting-edge in terms of food or décor, but it delivers exactly what you want in a neighborhood Japanese restaurant—reliable, comforting dishes served with care.
This is a family-run spot with consistently friendly service that makes you feel at home. I met a friend there last night—she lives in town but had never been. After our meal, she said she’d definitely be back.
We each had a cold Japanese beer served in a perfectly chilled mug—refreshing and a great pairing with our food. I had the salmon teriyaki dinner, which came with miso soup, salad, and rice. Everything was satisfying and just right.
After too many years away, it was a joy to return to Kyoto. I won’t wait so long next time.
