Into everyone’s life a little fancy restaurant must fall….
After a walk along the coast and an appetite has been acquired, it is a short walk to this small fancy restaurant just off of downtown.
Upon entering, there is a small initimate bar, dining area and a patio out back for “al fresco” dining. By San Francisco Bay Area city standards, it is not fancy in the luxurious, posh sense, but here, seafood is the star!
First up, Oysters Rockefeller appetizer. Frankly, they could have been prepared any which way – they were fresh and delicious if you are a fan of oysters! The salmon was good (although a bit overcooked, the waiter didn’t ask how it should be cooked). The salmon came perched atop garlic mashed potatoes that were out of this world! The scallops were so fresh and tasty and perfectly paired with polenta and farm fresh asparagus! They also feature Northern California (as in North of the San Francisco Bay Area) wines and beers, something not readily found outside Mendocino County. There was no room for dessert, guaranteeing a trip back to get the full-on meal experience!
The environment is convivial. On a late May early evening, there were Graduation dinners out back on the patio, an intimate shared dinner with drinks going on in the bar, and ladies who dine in the corner.
Another unique aspect of this restaurant is that it is very close (as in feet away) from the Mendocino Skunk train. Diners will experience the train horn, warning signals and small tremors caused by the train chugging by at any time in their meal. There are also people working out on pedal bikes (yes *on* the tracks) to get exercise on their tour of the redwoods in Mendocino! It added to the ambience as an “only in Fort Bragg” experience!
We were traveling through and picked KW Saltwater Grill because it appeared they could accommodate my husband, who has celiac disease. What we thought would be a quick meal stop turned into a lovely dinner worth lingering over. My seared ahi was great, and my husband was very happy with his roast chicken. We shared a salad and dessert, both of which were excellent. Would happily return.
Wow this was amazing. Some of the best food I’ve ever had, and I have celiac disease and they had so many options. Their GF bread is so good, and their chef specials were delicious. They have a lemon tart that is amazing. Totally recommend going here if you are in town!
Such a great experience! I have allergies to gluten and dairy and they had a lot of options. Gluten free freshly baked bread, which is a first since I’ve been gluten free for 8 years. They have a dedicated fryer and our server said the chef/owner is very careful with cross contamination. I felt very safe eating here. I had a salad that was absolutely amazing! One of the best salads I’ve had in my life. I also had the halibut and it was good too. And they had a GF/DF berry sorbet that was sooooo good! It was a nice ambiance too. Great date night place!
