The Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a cool place to stop outside of Eureka. There is a visitor center, a trail to walk, and an older barn to see.

We had a wonderful time walking here. Trails were well maintained and the visitor center had great information and a clean bathroom. We went to two different trails and both were great. Excellent spot for bird watching, and if you forget your binoculars the visitor center will let you check a pair out!

Stopped in randomly after seeing the sign on 101 and do not regret the decision. There were very few people there on a Saturday afternoon so it was quiet and felt like we had it to ourselves. The cost was $15 for an adult, but there is a lot to see and you can easily spend over an hour here without seeing everything. The labyrinth is cool but the flowers were the highlight for me. They also have a giant sequoia.

Lots of mosquitoes during the wet season, especially in the wooded areas.

We enjoyed a nice walk there. It was peaceful. The ocean views are beautiful after Long Pond. It’s not the most active wildlife season because it has not rained for several months. Definitely worth revising during raining season.
