Staff are great. Clean. Many pools with different temps. Both food places were closed due to a grand opening coming the next day. Sorry to have missed them. But Perry’s Deli in Middletown had ridiculously great sandwiches at unbelievably reasonable prices. 10 bucks for a roll your own sandwich. Great experience at Harbin Springs and looking forward to a return visit.
So Harbin Springs does not require drug testing for there staff, yet they impose fees and fines on guests if they smoke anything.
Here’s the hypocrisy and class action just primed.
Every single fine that they have issued should be refunded.
They are completely aware of the drug use with all there live on property and off.
Can anyone spell deposition.
Just go to the local dispensary and ask this question?
Do Harbin staff purchase marijuana here?
The answer is, just about all staff come in and buy, including supervision. They all know the scam and laugh about the fines.
I became aware of this because from a distance we observed to staff members in a little golf cart off on the side smoking either a cigarette or a joint.
Before you can hold others accountable it would be reasonable to hold your own staff accountable and they don’t.
Epic waters, rebuilding slowly but surely, but they are clearly prioritizing profit over community. They seem to not realize how valuable the community kitchen was to the culture of the place, as they have set that as the last structure to be built. They also did not warn me at check in that the Cafe would be closed during breakfast, when I would have made breakfast at my camp if I had known. With a broken foot, it was not feasible and I had to settle for a 10 dollar 2-bite fritatta with cold potatoes and mostly raw cheap veggies. Basically, come for the water, and let’s make the vibes better and hope the food gets better while praying they finish communal kitchen soon.
Harbin used to truly be a magical place (before the fire) with the relaxation starting upon check in because the people in the office were truly welcoming. Now Harbin seems to be corporate, only for profit, with clients being numbers, not being listened to or cared for. All that matters is income and the spirit burned down with the fire. During my last visit there was a power outage. I never received an email about it which I shared with the staff. The staff was defensive and kept insisting the emails were sent out. During the day long power outage (preventing me from using the sauna and steam room) people had to use the bathrooms in the dark. Seriously, would it be so difficult to provide a source of lighting? I also was charged 75 dollars for drinking beer in my room. I realize and respect the no alcohol rule in the common areas (it’s a good thing) but in the privacy of your room??? Under the confirmation of the reservation email I did find a note stating effective as of March 20th 2026 a charge will be applied. My visit was on the 18th! The charge was reversed but no explaination. The fire seemed to have burned down more than only it’s buildings of this formerly beloved retreat center. Everyone I talked to shared a similar experience about dealing with the employees.
after spending Christmas Day and the rest of the weekend my first time out at Harbin, i can genuinely and enthusiastically say it is a special and unique place. no complaints, all praise. well, maybe a small complaint. if they’re going to do it Euro style and be lax on the towels in the steam room and sauna, at least have a hose so people can wash off where their bottoms were or those who were before them. that is all. many happy returns!
