We found ourselves at Ehret on a Saturday afternoon and several pours later found ourselves deep in the kind of conversation that robs you of the I pulse to check your phone.

Cousin Ethan hosted the tasting with enough charm and cheer to convince us that lingering was not only acceptable, but perhaps the entire point. The sauvignon blanc was crisp and carefree, Bella’s cab was beautifully composed, and the merlot … had us Sideways in all the right ways.

A nod as well to Erin, whose handiwork shines through in every glass, from the lively sauvignon blanc to Bella’s cabernet.

Ehret manages a rare balance: polished not pompous, playful without pretense, and exactly the sort of place that turns an ordinary afternoon into the kind you’ll recount later as though you’d planned it all along.
