Chart Room was just ok. Locals raved. Lobster bisque was not great; it was offered with most meals with a salad. The salad was good. I may be biased, but the New England Clam Chowder in a sourdough bread bowl was not great; minimal clam flavor. The bowl was tasty. The BEST dessert was their made-from-scratch Blackberry Cobbler topped with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream, which was AMAZING. We ordered a cheeseburger that was better than we all expected. The linguine with Dungeness crab was good. A little crab with a light garlic butter flavor. The highlight was watching the sea lions just outside our window. For this view, ask to be seated under the bull horns. Be prepared to be seated at a table with 2 other random people if you’re a party of 4. Extra charge if paying w/ credit card. Cash is preferred. Food is way overpriced.
Racist workers here. Asked a simple question about how much the tax was and lady assumed that we weren’t from California because we’re Asian. “Hun, this is California. We have tax” in the most condescending tone ever. Food is mediocre for the high ratings. Meal is 80% fries. Fish wasn’t even soft, tasted dry, and was hard to chew. Never coming back here again.
The view provided is fabulous, but the food is just to fill an empty belly. The seafood combo came with a small slice of cod fish, two scallops, and three shrimps. Not to mention, it’s very overpriced considering the quality. It wasn’t fresh but simply frozen fish that tasted like plastic.
Fish tacos were bad too. Can’t even compare to the taste of any street tacos in SoCal.
The only thing that we didn’t complain about was the hot chocolate.
I don’t recommend this place.
Also, they will charge 3% extra for paying using credit card.
Nice restaurant, not fancy, but clean, open with great views. We went at lunch and it was pretty crowded but no waiting. I had their small clam chowder as a appetizer. Then fish and chips. Chowder was really good. Thick and creamy though I prefer whole clams. Theirs was apparently blended because the clams were ground up. I’d definitely recommend if you like chowder. The fish was Pacific cod, perfectly cooked. Fries were crispy but not overcooked. Some of the best fish and chips I’ve eaten.
We have been to this place many years ago. Went again on Friday. The nautical atmosphere is as I remembered. It is fun to watch the lounging sea lions out the windows. However, I will never go back. Two “tolerable” fish tacos for 22 bucks. We get far superior fish tacos for 3 bucks (2.75 on Tuesdays) a piece at “Casa Amiga.” A 1/4 cup of chowder for 12 bucks, though tasty, is just not generous enough for the price. I just can’t justify going back. If you figure on paying for the view of the ocean and sea lions and that has value for you, do it.
