My husband has been going to Big Bend Lodge for 40 years (since he was a small child) and so it’s been a touchstone of our lives for a very long time. We’ve also seen it evolve with new owners with new vision, and it’s never been better than it is right now! The cabins all got a fabulous yet simple refresh, the communication is superb, the caretaker is available if needed but otherwise unseen. We cannot say enough good things about our time here—effortless magic for families, kids and adults alike. If you like easy river time, campfire sing-alongs, BBQ dinners, and the opportunity to recharge from modern life, we highly recommend giving Big Bend a try… but don’t tell too many people, because it’s the best kept secret of Mendocino.

My family and I loved our time at Big Bend Lodge. The place is beautifully maintained and the surroundings are gorgeous. So nice to unplug for a while. The available newspaper, kindling, and firewood was a great touch. The resident kitty is a sweetheart too.

5 out of 5 stars!!! This place was not only extremely comfortable but it was beautiful!!! Lots of fun to be had! Swimming, tubing, nightly camp fires!! The care takers are amazing and very accommodating! Will definitely be returning!!

A wonderful locally owned cabin retreat. The cabins are fully equipped and very cozy. The river is amazing, I could have swam in it all day long. Warm water and slow current. They have tubes to play in. So glad I went!

after a long 7 hour drive and following a long dirt driveway down a steep hill to the lodge, my son arrived a 1/2 hour before check in. There is no hospitality there, the manager told him that he was a half hour early and to leave the premises–” get off the property!” This was not anyway to treat a guest. Well the rest of our 5 day stay was medium, the swimming hole was dirty, the beach was small and not appealing. the simple cabins were fine, 1950’s with 2016 prices! They tried to charge a $15 a day fee for the dog–cleaning fee; but they don’t clean the cabins each day! We did get that reduced to a “3 day” charge…there was a nice camp fire each night and the other guests were nice. So we never plan to go back; if you choose to go, be prepared to sign several one-sided “not responsible for anything that happens from snake bites to spiders. And there is a lot of wild life, our dog was sprayed by a skunk (her fault). No internet yet the manager has it; weak verizon cell phone reception.
