There’s a very nice park with plenty of parking, bathrooms, skate park, and a play structure. Walk to the back of the park to access trail heads. The forest itself is magical and easy to navigate.

The Arcata Community Forest is not just a park; it is a profound and deeply magical place that feels entirely disconnected from the hustle of the outside world. To step under its canopy is to witness nature’s majesty up close.

The moment you enter the forest, the sheer scale of the towering trees takes your breath away. These giants, thick with moss and reaching impossibly high into the sky, create a hushed, cathedral-like atmosphere. The air is cool and smells clean, infused with the rich, earthy scent of redwood duff and damp ferns. It’s a beauty that is both humbling and exhilarating.

What makes this forest truly special is the vibrant, welcoming community that uses it. Everyone you encounter, from serious trail runners to leisurely dog walkers, offers a friendly smile or nod. The collective respect for this natural treasure is palpable, making every visit a pleasant and sociable experience.

And there is something here for everyone! The well-maintained trails weave through the hills, providing ample space for all types of recreation. Whether you’re looking for a challenging jog, a scenic bike ride, a gentle walk with your dog, or simply a place to soak in the views, the forest accommodates. For those who love photography, the dramatic lighting and immense scale provide endless opportunities for capturing spectacular pictures.

The Arcata Community Forest is a testament to the power of conservation and local stewardship. It offers not just recreation, but a spiritual recharge. If you are anywhere near Humboldt County, a pilgrimage to this spectacular, ancient woods is an absolute must.

Gorgeous little forest in the middle of Arcata, CA. The trails are well maintained, and admission is free. The forest is clean, and dogs are allowed. Mountain bikers are also welcome. There is a small parking lot in the entrance of the forest, but beware, there are only 6 spots. Other than that, you will need to park in the streets nearby. I highly recommend this forest to anyone that loves nature and outdoors activities.
