My family and I had the privilege of joining Richard and crew aboard the Kraken today and had a spectacular outing. Not only did we find the boat to be adequate, I was pleased that vibration ,noise and diesel odor was very low and never a problem or even annoyance. We were on a Rock fishing outing which lasted about 5 hours.
After clearing the harbor buoys we headed north along the Fort Bragg coastline. I don’t know how knots work but my GPS indicated a cruising speed of around 10 mph. After about 30 min we reached a position off Point Laguna at McKerracher State Park, the captain killed the engines and we let fly.
My party did not bring our own tackle and used vessel-provided poles and tackle which we found to be in great working order and were easy to use. Knowing what I know now, I would have brought an assortment of 6-10” bar lures as these seemed to be ideal at coaxing the Lings into the boat
The crew was excellent at helping land fish, clear real tangles and re-reg poles as needed. This was very helpful as they are experts and it helped minimize downtime. The Captain was also great at keeping us on fish and maneuvered the boat several times as the schools shifted around. My group ages ranged from 11-74 years of age and we all managed to hook up with great ease. On our outing there were at least 15 guests who all hit their bag limits. There was a whale sighing but I didn’t catch a glimpse.
Edit: bring some cash to tip the desk hands because your going to want to.
Had a top notch day at Noyo Canyon on the Kraken with Captain Richard and Corrine. We saw so many humpback whales and Pacific white-sided dolphins, and it was fun to drop the hydrophone to eavesdrop on the underwater sounds. The ship was comfortable and everyone had a great time. Can’t wait to go back out with them!
My Father-in-law and I had a fantastic August Sunny Day – super nice crew, straight-forward – friendly and generally good vibes. We caught our limit of Rock Cod and even got a ling. Recommend this experience to all!
We were celebrating our 35th and wanted to do some whale watching. Several referrals took us to Anchor Charter & the Kraken. Beautiful boat, well maintained & the cutest crew you’ll ever meet! It was an amazing morning! Richard & Corrine are the best! We set out & located several whales & the way Richard took his time to get the whales comfortable with us was wonderful, we cruised along & followed them for while & enjoyed their splendor. Richard, third generation captain, has so much knowledge & respect for this ecosystem. Please support these guys & other businesses in Noyo Harbor! Thanks for a memorable trip!
Super fun charter experience! The crew was fun, knowledgeable and helpful. We saw whales, groups of jellyfish, and porpoises. They even filleted the fish for us! Will be booking a trip with them again soon.
