I would happily stay here again.

This weekend we camped at MacKerricher State Park’s Surfwood Campground, site #123. The weather couldn’t have been better—sunny days and mild nights made it a comfortable stay. The ocean was calm during our visit, so we missed out on the usual crashing waves that you can often hear from camp, but the setting was still peaceful.

The campground is well kept, and the sites here are large compared to many other parks. At site #123, we had plenty of room for our RV and Jeep, plus a fire pit and picnic table. You don’t feel packed in, which makes it easy to relax and enjoy the coastal surroundings. From the site you can catch glimpses of the ocean through the trees, and the short walk to the bluffs gives you incredible views of the coastline.

The photos show some of the highlights—our campsite setup, a view through the trees toward the ocean, and an evening fire under the full moon. It’s the kind of spot where you can enjoy both daytime exploring and quiet nights around the campfire.

The only drawback is how popular this campground is. Reservations need to be made far in advance since everyone seems to want to camp here, especially on weekends. That said, it’s easy to understand why—it’s one of the more scenic coastal campgrounds in Northern California.

I hadn’t camped here in a long time, and after this visit, I can’t wait to come back.

Great place for kids to explore the ocean creatures.

So much things to find and it keeps the kids entertained while learning. We stayed here for long durations and would keep coming back because we always found something new.

Make sure you look at tide weather, best time to come are during low tide.

There is lot of parking and public restrooms. But no outside water available to wash feet or hands from all the sand.
