This past Saturday I stopped by Studio Shop Gallery, I was in the area and and notice some paintings that caught my eye so I went back to view them.

Upon entering I was greeted by Monica and we talked about why I came in, and she explained to me the current exhibit was works by Roland Petersen who I found out is friends with one of my favorite painters Wayne Thiebaud. Roland is also 100 years old and still painting amazing works to date. I’m no art buff, but when I see something I like I go and view it. It was really cool to see these paintings in this space and the fact that it’s free and for the public to view is wonderful.

I also spoke with Stephanie the gallery director and owner and she told me that exhibits change every 4-6 weeks and I was surprised to learn that this place has been in business for 110 years in Burlingame and the oldest retail business as well, and family owned. I inquired about a couple pieces I saw by the artist Jung Han Kim and Stephanie filled me in on the artist and how he comes up with his creations.

It’s pretty damn awesome that we have a gallery like this on the peninsula that welcomes everybody inside to view it. People like you two are the reasons why I will support the business and spread the word of Studio Shop Gallery.

Yesterday went in to have not high monetary value, but high sentimental value wedding picture of grandparents set in customer owned frame. I had the pleasure of working with owner Janet Benson. Learned that The Studio Shop is THE oldest existing retailer in Burlingame, handed down generations.
As I waited for my frame assembly being done in back room, had time to notice the detailed, museum quality and vast range (contemporary, traditional, historical) of selection The Studio Shop had to offer. It was evident this is the place to come for your highly valued (monetary or sentimental) framing needs. There is good reason pride in artisan craftsmanship has withstood the test of time.
If you are looking for fast/easy/cheap go elsewhere. If you want it done right by skilled, generational craftspeople, here is the place.

I first met the staff at the Studio Shop when I was doing some framing almost 20 years ago! Over the years I have purchased a number of paintings and continued to have pieces framed. They even come to the house to hang the art. The shop is a lovely space and is a pleasure to visit even when not shopping. Julie has a great eye for what works and I can always count on her to steer me in the right direction for framing or art selection.
