From 4 AM to 6 AM too large Rottweilers barking loudly on the top deck at 1024 Danbeck street in north Santa Rosa.
I called the non emergency number to contact animal control the third night. They told me they would have the person on call contact me. That did not ever happen. Apparently you are helpless when you live within the city limits to have peace at night. I spoke with many neighbors who were disrupted from the noise as well.
I wish I could resolve this in person instead of through Animal Control. It does not feel like a safe option for me.
Today I got a letter telling me they sent them a letter of my complaint. Who knows maybe that will help. It has been quiet since then.

My experience with this animal shelter has been extremely disappointing. I have both volunteered here and rescued/adopted my dog through them, so this review comes from personal experience.
In my opinion, the shelter often appears more focused on fees and financial matters than on compassion for animals and the people trying to help them. During my time volunteering, I heard concerns from staff that some decisions seemed driven by financial considerations, and that reflected in how situations were handled.
Communication was very poor. Calls were not returned, concerns were dismissed, and I personally experienced staff ending calls during difficult conversations when pet owners were simply trying to request a review of their case. On one occasion, a supervisor told a pet owner, “I don’t care about your situation, you have to pay the fees or you don’t get to see the dog,” and then ended the call. The lack of empathy and professionalism was honestly heartbreaking during an already stressful situation.
I also personally got the impression that many staff held strong Republican or pro-Trump views, especially in how they openly expressed their political views, and at times it felt like people were treated differently. Whether intentional or not, this contributed to me feeling uncomfortable with how certain people, especially those from different backgrounds than some supervisors, were treated. These were also concerns I heard echoed by some volunteers in informal conversations.
What upset me most at the end was when I rescued an animal after I stopped volunteering. She came back with fleas, which raised serious concerns for me about the level of care being provided to the animals.
I ultimately decided to leave and stop volunteering with this shelter.
I care deeply about animals, which is why I volunteered and trusted this shelter in the first place. Based on my personal experience as both a volunteer and an adopter, I cannot recommend this shelter. I hope leadership takes concerns more seriously and improves how both animals and community members are treated.

I had a terrible experience at the Sonoma County Animal Pet Shelter. First, one of my cousins went in to pick up my dogs. I was on speakerphone with her, and the staff was ready to work with us so she could take them home. But she ended up leaving before anything was finalized, so I tried again with another family member. They refused to release the dogs to her because they said she was too closely connected to me. Then another relative was told the dogs would be put on hold, but when they returned on the day they were told, the dogs had already been adopted out.
Throughout all of this, I remained respectful and calm, but the staff was rude, aggressive, and inconsistent. They were willing to help at one point, then refused at another, and ultimately broke their promise to hold the dogs. These animals are like family to me, and their actions caused real heartbreak. I’ve seen other reviews—some dating back five years—describing the same thing, so it seems this is an ongoing problem. I don’t want anyone else to go through this kind of disrespect and confusion.
