It’ll be great when Asher becomes the manager here. Uncomfortable with the bartender and Tina the manager walked by my table five times. A little grumpy about letting me plug in my phone. The bartender are also came by my table twice. Didn’t bother picking up my empty glass or asking if I might want another beer… Neither did Tina. I think maybe they’re more focused on local folks and the regular crowd, but if you’re a a driver going up and down this Coast, you might want to skip this place.
Had an absolutely fantastic afternoon at Old Princeton Landing on a random Thursday in Half Moon Bay.
The weather was perfect when we arrived, and from the moment we walked in, everyone—staff and patrons alike—was incredibly welcoming. The bar itself is great, with a full liquor selection, an impressive rum lineup, and a thoughtfully curated canned beverage selection.
I was treating my parents to a relaxing afternoon, so we grabbed a round of SUNBOY Spiked Coconut Waters (Mango, Passion Fruit, and Pineapple) and headed out to the backyard. As the fog started rolling in, we gathered around one of the fire pits and settled in. There were families and kids enjoying the space, creating a lively atmosphere without it ever feeling chaotic or overwhelming.
For food, we ordered the Hawaiian plate, Brussels sprouts, and grilled fish tacos from the grill side of the property. Everything was delicious—fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for.
One thing that really stood out was how special the whole place feels. It’s relaxed and unpretentious, but there’s so much character everywhere you look. The outdoor space is fantastic, and the stage looks like an incredible venue for live music. We left already planning a return trip for a show.
Old Princeton Landing perfectly captures what makes Half Moon Bay special. Great people, great food, great drinks, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. A must-visit if you’re anywhere near the coast.
If you’re heading toward Half Moon Bay and take one look at the chaos surrounding Sam’s Chowder House… just keep driving. Trust me. We did, and it was the best decision of the day.
We landed at Old Princeton Landing Public House & Grill and had such a great experience—zero crowds, zero stress, and actually great food.
Now, for context: my partner is a highly trained chef who, frankly, hates everything. So when he finishes a meal, it’s basically a five-star review. He plowed through his burger and specifically called out the fries as “real”—meaning freshly cut or very close to it. Not the sad, frozen afterthought you get at most places.
I had the calamari from the appetizer menu – no fries, just to set expectations, but honestly—it didn’t need anything else. It came with a spicy mayo that paired perfectly. The batter was light, the calamari was tender – not chewy!! – and the portion was generous without being overwhelming.
One thing to know: the bar and food service are connected but seem to operate separately. You order and pay for food at one counter, then grab drinks from the bar.
What a win. We completely avoided the packed tourist scene and still got excellent food and a relaxed, fun atmosphere. EASY parking. No waiting to be seated.
No shade to the popular spots—but if waiting in lines and fighting for parking isn’t your thing – and it is most certainly NOT my thing – this is your move.
They’ve got live music at night, outdoor seating, and it’s dog-friendly. If we lived closer, this would absolutely be our regular spot.
Our first time eating here. After a day of crabbing and pier fishing, it was time to enjoy some seafood. Our friends told us a food hack in the area. This place is actually a bar that offer delicious food. It’s not a sit-down restaurant style eatery but more like a to-go place. There are available seating outside for bar drinking patrons but can also be used for dining visitors. On a cold day, I can’t imagine eating outside being favorable to most patrons. Fortunately, the weather was quite nice today. Before today’s visit, our friends hyped us up to experience their fish and chips. Upon ordering, we even saw a few fly out of the kitchen to complete recent orders. Unfortunately, after we ordered ours, we were later notified that they ran out and will not have any until an hour later when supplies have been replenished.. Bummer. They even ran out of the Crab Louie Salad which was on special for the day. Two of our orders gone. Double Bummer. My wife’s Poke bowl salad potion was small. However, my Kyle Sando, a fish sandwich, tasted great and was very satisfying. That was the saving grace. I think it’s worth another visit, just to try the Fish & Chips.
Update: 2/1/2026. After fishing the pier, as promised we returned to try their fish and chips. We ordered four servings for my wife and I plus two other guests. The fish was soft and flaky, definitely fresh. The French fires aka “chips” where flavorful, a bit salty for my taste. Overall, it was good to finally try it.
Stopped by Old Princeton Landing and loved it. Low-key spot with amazing beer, tasty food, and a relaxed crowd — perfect for a chill night out. The clam chowder deserves a special call-out (so good). Staff were friendly and made the visit feel like hanging out with neighbors. Highly recommend — you’ll want to come back.
