Tucked away off Hecker Pass Road at the Old Gilroy Golf Course, NorCal Smoked BBQ is the definition of a hidden local gem. While passersby might easily miss its tucked-away clubhouse setting, the kitchen turns out some of the most authentic Central Texas-style, slow-smoked barbecue in the South Bay.
The standout here is undeniably the brisket. Each thick slice boasts a deeply seasoned, peppery bark, a distinct smoke ring, and rendered fat that melts the moment you bite in. Stacked high on a toasted bun with crisp fries or ordered straight up by the slice, it rivals joints with twice the hype. The smoky, tender tri-tip honors Golden State tradition with bold seasoning, while the pork ribs pull clean off the bone with just the right chew and a balanced savory glaze.
The sides and morning staples hold up their end of the bargain as well. Early risers can fuel up on hearty breakfast burritos, while lunch plates come anchored by rich barbecue beans, creamy mac, and crisp, tangy coleslaw that never feels like an afterthought.
Combine generous portions with genuine, down-home hospitality and relaxed patio seating overlooking the fairway greens, and you get a quintessential neighborhood joint. Whether you are finishing a round of golf, cruising the Hecker Pass wine corridor, or simply hunting down authentic pitmaster craft, NorCal Smoked BBQ delivers top-tier flavor without an ounce of pretense.
Highly recommend NorCal Smoked BBQ. The tri tip and ribs were juicy and full of flavor. So good with or without the sauce, but the bbq sauce was also tasty. Scott the owner and pitmaster is super nice and welcoming. I think we just found the best bbq in Gilroy.
Awesome guy and great food. I’ve tried quite a few BBQs in the US, but I felt right at home here and it was just really good! I hope you come to Barcelona one day 🙂 Best wishes from your German guests
The food is amazing, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is always great and he’s a very nice guy. Great place to grab food after some golf or on your way through hecker pass!
