We saw this restaurant was recommended by people for their hours and decent offerings. We came pretty late in the night, so there was no wait and parking was a breeze.
Food itself was OK. Their menu is pretty big with reasonable prices. We got a few things, like the BBQ pork rice platter, roast duck, congee, and wonton noodle soup. The standout was definitely the duck, while everything else was pretty average or so-so.
If you’ve never been to an authentic CANTONESE restaurant, the service may put you off at first. But Cantonese people and restaurants tend to be very straight forward and can seem unfriendly. I wouldn’t say service was unfriendly at all, but it was more for efficiency. They do charge a service charge, but it is not unreasonable.
Overall, if you want some Cantonese comfort food this is a good place to have it, especially if it is super late at night. Maybe we just came at a time where food was more mediocre but we were happy this restaurant was open. When we left it was bordering towards midnight and the restaurant started to fill up, so looks like many people appreciate for this restaurant for their hours.

Nice Peking duck served on platter with some sauce underneath the duck and that’s it. Our server recommended The Gold Medal Chop Suey as a starch to accompany the duck and it was delicious with slices of beef, chicken, pork and pieces of scallops and other tasty sea critters which I couldn’t recognize. Service is fast, maybe even curt, but that’s what it takes for them to be so fast at such a busy small place. The 9pm crowd was very diverse with a large table of loud post-clubbing guests which added to the “ambiance.” Not for everyone but I really enjoyed this place.

I know this is a historical location that is thriving with plenty of diversity. I saw peeps from all walks of life happy and ready to be served. Really good customer service and awesome variety. Everything is made to order, so you may wait a few minutes. I’ll make this a staple for Chinese food. I got carry out so haven’t had the food just yet but when I get home it’s on! Shrimp egg fo young extra green onion, vegetable fried rice with extra onions about $47, but servings are huge enough for 2-3 meals from what I can see.

My friend and I were looking for Chinese cuisine after 10:30pm on a Friday and night and Google led us to New Gold Medal Restaurant in Oakland, at 389kk 8th St. It clean and friendly with a large menu to choose from. Walnut shrimp is my JAM and I was not disappointed. The serving was hearty, the walnuts nice and sweet and the shrimp….FRESH!, as was the shrimp in the fried rice I ordered. My picky friend ordered egg-foo-young and beef and vegetable chow-mein and there were no complaints. We had enough food for the next day; lunch and dinner. I am excited to visit this wonderful eatery again.
Great service from start to finish.
No craziness either. This restaurant is quiet and pleasing.
Open till 3am but check before you go.

This is a locals go-to for decades. From seafood to meat dishes all your traditional Chinese dishes can be found here. Nothing is amaricanized like the panda food. You can’t go wrong with bbq duck, wontons, salt n pepper fried pork chops, chow meins, and even vegetarian options are good here. Lobster and crabs are also delicious.
Bring your friends or family here and eat an authentic Chinese meal here. It’s almost a whole in the wall so no need to dressed up.
