honestly this place just made me feel totally at peace the whole time i was there. the trail up is a little steep in parts but the view from the top is absolutely stunning. we spread out a blanket near the old tree stumps and just sat there looking at the lake for like an hour thought we’d be hiking forever and it felt so worth it.

I wish I couId give this place zero stars. The drive alone is enough to make you regret coming. The road is narrow, rough, covered in loose gravel, and winds steeply up the mountain with intimidating drop-offs and no protection along the edge. It was one of the most nerve-racking drives I’ve experienced, and I spent the entire time wondering whether the destination could possibly be worth it.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t. After finally reaching the park entrance, there was very little to see or do. The facilities are minimal, the viewpoints are underwhelming considering the effort required to get there, and the overall experience felt like a complete waste of time. Between the stressful drive, the safety concerns, and the lack of attractions, this was easily one of the most disappointing parks I’ve visited. I would not recommend it to anyone unless they specifically enjoy white-knuckle mountain driving for almost no reward.

Good hike for a workout that’ll make you feel amazing the next day! You have to go on a gravel road for two miles and it can be slippery a bit on the way down, I had to take a ton of baby steps. Worth it though! Bathroom at beginning and two miles up. Bring water and a snack. There are two benches on the way up and some picnic tables later on up.

Wonderful scenic mountaintop hike next to Clear Lake. Hike is mostly along fireroads, which are easy to follow and well signed. Nice new benches, interpretive signs, and bathrooms all along main route to top. Vegetation ranges from drier brush and pines, to moist laurel and mossy oaks, to orchards around homestead. Nice details included homestead structures and airplane crash site. Only improvements I could wish for is for additional “narrower” more intimate hiking trails, instead of the broad fireroads, and to clear some brush along summits, especially at Buckingham Peak, to be able to enjoy views better (so maybe 4.5 stars, but rounded to 5). Main route to Wright Peak, does have square foundations, so it looks like the county park is planning on adding more hiker friendly facilities (maybe a shaded gazebo will come?)
