This was our 2nd trip to this area. We didn’t get to go to Montgomery Woods before but wow! The trees are the biggest we’ve ever seen. It was peaceful and an easy walk. Construction is going on but didn’t intrude on our day.

Gorgeous. This is a little out of the way but well worth the drive. It’s a lovely hike with a challenging climb at the start, but well worth the effort.

Absolutely magical. Standing among these ancient trees makes you feel so small, yet so connected to something much bigger. The beauty, tranquility, and energy of this place are hard to put into words. It was the perfect reminder to slow down, breathe, and appreciate the world around us. A place I’ll never forget and can’t wait to visit again.

Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve absolutely did not disappoint. The towering redwood trees are breathtaking, and throughout the trails there are little informational signs that teach you about the forest, wildlife, and history of the area, which made the experience feel even more immersive.

On my first trip to Ukiah, we didn’t get a chance to stop here, but during my second visit I was determined to see it — and I’m so glad we did. The entire forest feels quiet, serene, lush, and almost unreal. It honestly gave me a “Twilight”-style atmosphere with the misty greenery and massive trees surrounding you everywhere you look.

I will say, though, that on AllTrails the loop was marked as “easy,” and I personally think that’s a little misleading. We completed the loop trail, but getting to the clearing at the top does involve a fairly steep incline in the beginning. We saw families with very young children and even an elderly visitor struggling a bit on the way back out. Once you get through the initial climb and into the clearing, the trail becomes much easier and more enjoyable.

There are also natural obstacles throughout the trail like small creeks, rocks, logs, and branches to step over, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for someone with mobility issues. But aside from that, this park is truly a hidden gem and absolutely worth the visit if you’re anywhere near the area.

So beautiful and magical. We are fortunate to have discovered this place while staying for a few days close by. The trees are majestic and the minute you get out of your vehicle it smells so fresh. We met some workers who are making improvements on the trail and they’ve done a wonderful job so far. As everyone says, there is an incline at the beginning, but once you get to the top it levels out and definitely worth the hike.
