We were living in Fort Bragg, experiencing homelessness and doubling up with family in a cramped, roach-infested one-bedroom apartment. With one child and a baby on the way, we reached out to the Mendocino Coast Hospitality Center for help. We applied for affordable housing and various support services to stabilize our family.
A staff member there assured us that a family-focused affordable housing complex would contact us soon, so we submitted our application. We submitted multiple applications to different places as well. When we never heard back, I followed up myself. I was shocked to learn the waiting list was actually three to five years. We simply could not wait years under those living conditions with a newborn on the way. Because of this, my family decided to relocate. When the worker who had been helping us finally reached out and we explained why we left, they blamed us, claiming we just didn’t “stick it out” long enough.
My disabled, ltransgender son and I escaped Human trafficking only to be, swiftly removed and thrown back on the streets. This was while attending a doctor’s visit because my son’s legs stopped working. They removed our belongings and had my son’s, certified, therapy cat taken to the pound and turned him in as a stray. My son’s legs don’t work due to extreme stress, so they threw us on the streets?! They also flat out lied and said that we didn’t notify anyone that we were going and that we abandoned our pet. We were in contact with staff, literally the house supervisor the entire time and let them know the details of leaving our cat to be cared for by 3 different client and got the okay from a house manager.Any decent human being would support a trip of this impor5ance, but these monsters who are supposed to care about those who are vulnerable didn’ t nothing but make it so 5hat were worse off than when we arrived. We trusted them with sensitive subject matter, only to be handed a new layer of PTSD inducing trauma. They tell you to trust them then abuse the fact that you’re raw, fragile, and in my case, female. As far as my son, so many HIPPA and Gender Human Rights have been violated. Worst of all his trust in any people whatsoever has been completely destroyed. We had finally had a sliver of hope in mankind restored and having an absent father who cruelly misunderstood and makes fun of him, he trusted the staff when they portrayed good male roll models and the females as trustworthy and nurturing. Yet, they have left him with an emptiness and hurt that will never be mended, and will stay with him for the rest of his life. Do not trust their smiles and empty promises. They’ll only leave you feeling small, dirty, and beneath them.
Best place for resources for the homeless and the homesteaders if you’re new to the area or if you just need resources their kid friendly non-judgmental and they have all the hookups to the community
Unfortunately when public entities mix with tax advantaged status and a boondoggle approach terrible things happen. Lets begin with the Hospitality Centers admin Address. Best use stipulates on advantages of low income housing and correct use of assets. Hospitaly Centers morally and ethically should remove all Admin. Offices at downtown Hotel and use properly to house and assist lower income earners. TOTAL FAiLURE govt. woldn’t expect any different.!!

In over 1600 miles of travel Fort Bragg was the first community that showed an active interest in helping me get off the road and street.
