So excited to finally try Hana Izumi! The lunch menu starts with a Chef’s Tasting Plate of seasonal small appetizers. The seasonal appetizers included chawanmushi steamed egg, inarizushi, tamagoyaki egg with daikon, and 2 other items.
The Bara Chirashi Bowl included seaweed to make hand rolls with the sashimi, ikura, diced pickled radish, ginger, etc. Each type of fish was prepared well, but the scallop was especially good.
Beyond the food, the service was wonderful. The restaurant responds quickly to calls and texts for reservations. The staff are very attentive and knowledgeable about the food. The restaurant feels classy and comfortable. It is easy to see the care they put into their business.
Hana Izumi was an incredible lunch experience. Chef Koji, the husband and owner, prepared delicious, traditional Japanese dishes that beautifully celebrated seasonal ingredients from California. Every course was excellent, and my personal highlight was the Kobachi 3 Ways. Luna, our kaiseki server and the general manager, was attentive, friendly, and welcoming throughout the meal. It’s a small restaurant, but the food and hospitality are truly exceptional, easily up there with some of the best meals I’ve had in Japan. Thank you so much for the wonderful meal!
Lovely hidden gem in Millbrae/ authentic kaiseki spot. The food is traditionally done at a high level. The atmosphere is warm/ cozy.
Favorites included the sesame tofu with uni, sashimi, crab steamed egg, duck breast, and the filet mignon. The menu changes monthly, which makes it feel worth coming back to.
The service is also great, run by a Japanese couple who make the whole experience feel personal.
This place is truly amazing! Every dish wowed me right from the first bite. The flavors were incredible and everything were made from scratch! The sashimi were really delicious (chutoro literally melts in the mouth) and the wagyu steak main dish is sooo tasty! The family style restaurant is super cute and everyone is so welcoming and friendly. I recommend doing it with sake for the full experience. 12 out of 10!
Made dinner reservations for our anniversary. Very easy process and friendly communication. Just text the number posted online. One thing about parking, the surrounding area is always busy and hard to get good parking so take the time to get here early, parking is frustrating around the area.
I’ve been wanting to try Hana Izumi for awhile and finally made the time to. Everything was delicious. The staff are extremely professional, courteous, and friendly. The ingredients were all incredibly fresh and flavorful. Not a single bad dish. Easy favorites were the duck (pictured in the cocktail glass) and the crab. There was also a dessert duo (not pictured) that had red bean jello and matcha mochi with fruit, also delicious. Would definitely come back.
