The Golden Gate Saloon is an absolute gem in Grass Valley. I grabbed a seat at the bar, and Joaquin took amazing care of me from start to finish. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, he made an already great experience even better.
The restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating, plus plenty of room at the bar. I’d still recommend calling ahead for a reservation because this place is popular for a reason.
The presentation of every dish was outstanding. Everything arrived beautifully plated and fully dressed, like it had been prepared by a private chef just for me.
I ordered the signature elk strip, and it was absolutely to die for. Perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. It was easily one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time.
And whatever you do, don’t leave without ordering the cobbler. It’s the perfect finish to an unforgettable meal.
I’ll definitely be back, and next time I’ll be asking for Joaquin again.
Went here for brunch last week and ordered the salmon bowl. It was delicious. The waitress was fantastic, but she advised us that the chefs are mean when we made a special request that they did deny (brurrata during brunch). It was a ghost town when we were there and somehow they were out of diet coke. My experience was great, but my colleague couldn’t have her diet coke and her chicken for the chicken and waffles was way overcooked. I have been here once before for dinner and the mushroom risotto was phenomenal.
We spent Christmas Eve at the Holbrook. Had a beautiful room which they decorated with a Christmas tree! We opened the door to feel like we were home at Christmas.
The restaurant was a treat.
We had the salmon and the burrata plate. The accompanying foccocia bread was excellent also.. The crusted salmon was simply delicious.
The hotel service and the restaurant service was tops. Everyone was so helpful.
HOWEVER, We had reservations at the tinsel tavern speakeasy downstairs. We went to the tavern last Christmas and had a good experience.
The service this year was embarrassingly bad. Cocktail waitresses actually ignored us while serving two tables next to us. She would not even look at us. There was no:
”Someone will be with you in a minute” or “Can I get you something while you wait”
Two of them would not even meet our gaze.
I have no idea why or how they could be so rude. Honestly after 20 minutes of this, Iwent to the bar and asked to be helped and they still waited 10 minutes to take our drink and food order.
Everything else was superb.
We celebrated our anniversary last week by indulging in the tasting menu with wine parings. It was outstanding! The food was beautifully prepared and plated, and of course delicious. Our night out was made even better by our wonderful server, Becky. She was friendly, attentive, and really cared about our experience. We can’t wait to come back!
Amazing! We did the four course meal with the wine pairings and we were blown away! I’ve never had Brussels sprouts so good before. They tasted like orange chicken! How??? The power went out twice so maybe the ghosts were jealous. We got to have dinner in the dark with candle light. It was actually great. The full glass of wine with each course sure helped too
