This place is a pretty decent range – available parking, solid shooting benches, and a safe area. There is often a fair amount of litter, unfortunately, but you can shoot to your heart’s content for free. I’ve always felt more comfortable getting there in my 4WD high clearance truck, but I’ve seen some passenger cars make it in. Not sure I’d recommend trying with a car if there’s been a lot of rain. It gets closed in the summer a lot due to fire danger, so it might be worth calling the BLM office before you drive all the way up there. There’s no range officer but other users have mostly been polite. I’ve only seen BLM law enforcement there once, but it does get patrolled.

Of the 3 BLM ranges I’ve been to, this is the best. 4WD on the way in, it’s a long and windy road. There are some homemade benches onsite, plenty of room for 4 groups, some shade, trash everywhere, and a long range. Parking is back from the line, so you have you haul your stuff up a small hill. Solid place though. Pick up your brass on the way out or they’ll close this place down.

I really like the lack of development and regulation at this range.

For short range shooting, you can shoot at anything from 5 yards to 50. For long range shooting, there are berms at 115, 200 and 300 yards. The 400 yard line is against the hill that forms the natural back to the range. As of 7/12/16, there are three steel targets hanging at 400 yards, although they are pretty shot out.

There is a lot of good scrap to build up backings for targets, but if you want something specific then you need to bring it.
