Tonight, my new bride and I decided to try this place out. I must say, this place is one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had.
Things started on a bad foot. Upon our entry into the restaurant, we were greeted by a young female hostess who greeted us and then said she would check for a table. A young gentleman came out of the bar area and asked if we had been taken care of. When we said the hostess was getting us a table, he said, “Thank God,” and walked back into the bar.
We were seated at a table in the dining area with a couple of large groups around us. The female waitress came to our table and asked us how we were doing and what we wanted to start with. Except she slammed both hands on the table, got in my wife’s face, and was slurring her speech. She was clearly intoxicated.
I ordered a basket of garlic bread and a cocktail from their specials menu called the “All American.” The menu described it as being vodka with strawberry puree and blue curacao. What was brought to the table was a very loose fit of what is described. The strawberry, barely visible at the bottom, tasted like a powdered mix. There was a slight blue tint to what tasted like a lemon lime soda. But here’s the thing. There was ZERO alcohol in it.
We observed the intoxicated waitress drop dishes on the floor three times while serving other tables. After receiving our dinner, the manager (Dominick) came by and asked how things were. I proceeded to tell him that the waitress was drunk and was going to run his business into the ground. The food was mediocre at best. I actually had to spit my chicken into a napkin because, after several minutes of chewing, I couldn’t break it down enough to swallow. I told Dominick about the drink with no alcohol, refused a to-go box for my food, and said that we would not be back.
Dominick was kind and did his best to remedy the situation. He comped my plate and gave us a free dessert to go.

For the more clear record. Yes, Lakeside Organics, the owner of both farm & grill, does grow their own artichokes offering a whole grilled artichoke frm their expansive & diverse menu, they can not take credit for the origins of the fried artichokes hearts mentioned in the profile portion of this listing. These are separately sourced but what makes these uniquely different from other deep fried hearts is how deliciously moist & tender they are. I have yet to experience fried artichoke hearts that are not dry & tasteless except for the California Grill. It is safe to say that this place excells & ranks w exceptionallism over all other eateries in not just Santa Cruz but it’s surrounding counties!

We came here as a recommendation from the front desk person at the hotel we’re staying. Everything was exceptional. Tasty bread for starters. We tried the onion ring appetizer which were just the right amount of breading and crispy. The salads were fresh and flavorful. The prime rib was a perfect cut and cooked exactly how it was ordered. The portions are exceptionally generous. So much so, we needed to go containers. The service was friendly and prompt. Would definitely recommend for anyone in the area to visit here.
