The very first Black Bear Diner opened in Mt Shasta, CA in 1995. The service is great! The food portion is gigantic. The souvenirs include 95% Cotton boxer which is much more healthier (than Polyester) for the body! The one star deduction is for the hash brown, a little bitter taste. They do give military discount.

Any Black Bear Diner is always a must-stop for us whenever we travel to the U.S. We love the classic diner atmosphere and the consistently great food.
The portions are incredibly generous, so you definitely won’t leave hungry. One thing you absolutely shouldn’t skip is the Bear Claw, I always get one to go!
The service has always been excellent as well. The servers are attentive, friendly, and make the dining experience even more enjoyable.
If you’re looking for hearty comfort food, great service, and a fun diner experience, Black Bear Diner is well worth a visit! Especially the Mt Shasta location given its origin and history ☺️

It seems to always be busy. The “big foot” which is chicken fried steak is probably the favorite for my wife and I. I got the meatloaf today. It’s not bad. I recommend not getting the gravy on it. Visual appearance of the gravy makes me not even want to taste it. Actually quite disappointed in the meatloaf. I know I should’ve gone with the chicken fried steak.

Great 100% American place to get filling food that will keep you going to your mountain adventure. Service was good, not amazing but good, the food was good, sweet potato fries are great. Kid’s menu is great, my son loved the burger. The place is clean and full of history.

I absolutely loved my visit to Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta! From the moment I walked in, I could tell this place is special, the way they present the menus and all the little touches around the diner make it feel warm and unique. The food? Simply fantastic. Every bite felt hearty and made with care. It’s the kind of spot where you leave smiling, full, and already planning your next visit. Highly recommend if you want a cozy, fun, and genuinely delicious experience!
